St. Kevin's National School

Once again our Spookathon was a ‘spooktacular’ success this year. Our sincere thanks to our parents and guardians, your support this year was absolutely fantastic. We appreciate your support so much. Our thanks too, to our terrifyingly talented teachers, screamingly super special needs assistants and spookastically superb secretary, who all engaged with the Spookathon spirit. And to the awesomely attired scholars of St. Kevin’s, we had Batman and Barbie, pirates and princesses, zombies, pizzas and iphones, and two brilliants classes of Junior Infants who enjoyed their first Spookathon! We recently started writing – and writing wonderfully!! Our terrific teacher Ms. Harrison was so impressed with our writing she asked us to visit Mr. O’ Leary in his office. Mr. O’ Leary was so impressed he thought Ms. Harrison had done all the writing!! We just said ‘We are wonderfully wondrous writers’ and everyone agreed. Well done to our wonderful writers! (Ps. I still can’t believe how good the writing is in Junior Infants – well done guys!!-Mr. O’L.)

Our wonderful writers continued with their super scribing this week, showing us the many ways that we can learn to write. Ms. Harrison’s super scribes used  ‘squishy’ paint, soft sand and amazing markerboards – it looks like awesome fun. And most importantly, it is creating some really cool writing! Well done again guys!

Just as the cold, wet and windy weather settles in around the grounds of St. Kevin’s, our very thoughtful Junior Infants said they would like to keep our bird-feeders well stocked. So not only are Ms. Harrison’s Junior Infants helping bio-diversity in our school yard, our infants are also ensuring our feathered friends have lots of food through the cold days ahead. Our boys and girls have placed the bird-feeder outside their classroom so have a look next time you visit. I’m sure a robin or two might be visiting at this time of year too!! Our Junior Infants Help Our Feathered Friends!

On Friday, our Parents’ Association hosted their annual cake sale in the Parents’ Room. All our parents and guardians were invited to bring or bake a cake – and we must say a huge and tasty thanks to all our parents and guardians who baked and brought cakes of all types and sizes – we had very cool chocolate cakes, fantastic fairy buns, super Swiss rolls and any number of brilliantly bakes goods and terrifically tasty treats. Our thanks as always for your support on the day. It was a great success and we certainly had a bunch of happy, cake-filled pupils, especially our Junior Infants, who really enjoyed their first sale of cakes in St. Kevin’s!!! Our Cake Sale!!

Well our wonderfully wondrous writers are at it again. This bunch of super scholars appeared in the office, to display their carefully crafted letters, and my oh my, isn’t it just wonderful writing. I think we may have to change the name of Ms. Harrison’s classroom to the Super Scribes Storeroom, ’cause that’s where all the best writers in St. Kevin’s are to be found!! Well done again guys!!

Our Junior Infants recently spent some time with our wonderful Lollipop Lady Valerie, who provides a super service to the school, ensuring our super scholars cross safely by the shops each day. Valerie explained all about the Safe Cross Code to our scholars, that crossing safely is just so important. We were delighted that Valerie took such time and effort, and later on, some of our scholars assumed the ‘Lollipop’ for a special turn! Our Christmas shows took place in the week before our Christmas holidays. It was a great morning, with the talents of each class shining brightly, from our Junior Infants who performed the ‘ABC Nativity’ to the simply superb singing of our Senior Infants, who all sported the coolest Christmas jumpers! The amazing play, ‘Away with the Manager’ was performed by the amazing actors in our First Class and Second Class, along with a wonderful choral performance from our singing scholars in our Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes. Our newly formed school choir also made their début performance. It was a great morning and our sincere thanks to all our parents and guardians who offered their support and encouragement on the day! Our Christmas Shows!

We are very lucky to enjoy Maths for Fun at the moment in our class. Each Wednesday our mums, dads, grannies and granddads join us to participate in puzzles, riddles, games and quizzes, which is very exciting and lots of fun. We really like seeing big people on little chairs too!! We would like to thank all our mums, dads, grannies and granddads for coming along and helping us each week, thank you so much!!

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge againn i Scoil Naomh Chaoimhín. Bhí orainn go leor imeachtaí. Bhí comórtas ealaíne againn, bhí feis ceoil agus ceolchoirm leis an córscoil againn, bhí lá glas againn agus bhí tráth na gceist againn. Bhí sé spraoi iontach. Seiceáil go léir an gníomh!!!
