Class Activities!

  • Dear 2nd Class,

I hope you are all keeping well at home and getting as much of this lovely spring sunshine and fresh air as you can at the minute. We will be back to drawing in our school garden, enjoying just dance, playing lots of games of fruit salad in P.E. and learning about the world around us before you know it.

In the meantime, I would like you to keep your fantastic little minds as active as you can by keeping a copybook of your daily learning; your drawings, your stories (keep a daily diary of what you get up to), describing and drawing the characters in the books you are reading, pieces of nature that you would like to include like flowers or shells. You are all AMAZING artists so I know this won’t be too tricky at all.

Here are some things that I would like you to TRY to keep up at this time, if you can’t keep it up every day then don’t worry.

    1) Spellbound homework daily (1 sound per week). Try to make up a silly story or 4 sentences each day using 1 box of your spelling words.

    2) Mental maths- Keep up with you daily mental maths homework as usual and if you are finding any of them tricky just put a circle around it and we will come back to it later

    3) Tables- Keep practising your tables, using a dice if you have one or a deck of cards (Choose 2 cards and add them together) This website has some great games such as Hit the Button or Helicopter Rescue
    www.topmarks.co.uk

    4) Reading- Please try to keep reading every day, it really is so important. You are all great readers so you can read yourselves too remember! There are lots of online books you can read too
    www.funbrain.com/books
    www.magickeys.com/books

    5) Spring Project- I would like you to use your senses to create a mini Spring project (Like we did for Autumn). 1 copybook page for each of the titles:1. What do you see during the spring? Eg. birds busy building their nests/ 2. What do you hear? Eg. the birds singing 3. What do you smell? Eg. freshly cut grass. 4. What can you touch? Eg. spring flowers growing 5) What can you taste? Draw a picture of a meal you enjoy. You could also include information about Irish animals in the spring, here is the OWLS website https://www.owls.ie/kids-wildlife (Choose an animal, draw a picture and create a fact file like we did for our octopus and hedgehog reports)

Most importantly boys and girls get some fresh air, play lots of games and have fun! Missing you all and I look forward to seeing you soon.
    Take care, Miss Lynch!

Class Activities!

  • Greetings 2nd class,
I hope you are all well and keeping busy at home. I am missing you all terribly and can’t wait to see all your spring projects from last week. I hope you are reading every day and keeping up with your tables. I am sure you are disappointed about your Communion day being postponed but you will be able to celebrate your day in the future when everything is back to normal.
This week I would like you to do the following activities:

1)Spellbound Unit 27- Please keep up to date with your spellbound activities each day and your sentences (+8 words in each sentence) one box each night.

2)Mental maths- Do your best with your mental maths and keep up your tables each day too. We have up to take away 8 tables. You can use dominoes, playing cards or a dice to test yourself (Remember the bigger number always comes first when taking away).

3)Book review- This week I would like you to complete a review of a book you have read at home. You can use the following headings to write about the book: Title of the Book, Author, Illustrator, My favourite part of the book, Rate the book out of 5 stars. Draw your favourite character in the book and think of 5 adjectives to describe them. Finally, I would like you to design your own book cover for the book.

4)Maths- this week I would like you to think about measuring food in grams (g) and kilograms (kg). Remember there are 1000g in 1 kg. Make a list of food in your home, write down the name of the item and how much it weighs. Make a new list of the food items you found from the lightest to the heaviest.

5)Art- Choose any animal from the rainforest to draw. This website has lots of interesting facts and beautiful pictures to help you. https://www.rainforestanimals.net/

I have set up an email address that you can send pictures of your work to so I can see all the incredible work you are doing at home. mslynchstkevins@gmail.com
Looking forward to seeing your creations,
    Take care,
    Ms Lynch

Class Activities!

  • Greetings 2nd class,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed some Easter eggs! I hope you are reading a little every day and continuing to make your beautiful drawings.

This week I would like you to do the following activities:

Spellbound Unit 28– Please keep up to date with your spellbound activities each day and your sentences (+8 words in each sentence) one box each night.

Mental maths– Do your best with your mental maths and keep up your tables each day too. We have up to take away 9 tables. You could make your own bingo board using your tables and ask someone to call the answers to the sums you have written (Remember the bigger number always comes first when taking away).

Stories with a twist– This week I would like you to choose well-known story such as The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears or Hansel and Gretel. Using the main characters in the story I would like you to think of a different twist to the story and write it in your own words. Maybe The Three Bears are living on the moon and they are eating moon cakes instead of porridge? You decide! Remember the story has to have a beginning, a middle and an end.

Maths- This week I would like you to think about time. Make a timetable of what you for one day in your copy using digital time, eg. 08:00- I wake up and jump out of bed. 08:30-I get dressed and I have my breakfast. 11:00- I watch the Home School Hub on T.V. You can make it more interesting by including some drawings.

Art- Find three small objects in your house that you can draw around. On a page make a pattern using these 2D shapes, repeat the pattern until the whole page is full. Colour in the shapes when you are finished.

Please send on any photos of the activities that you are doing to my email address mslynchstkevins@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing your wonderful work.

    Take care,

    Ms. Lynch!

Class Activities!

  • Hello boys and girls,

I hope you all had a nice week last week and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine as much as you could. I am delighted to hear that lots of you are learning new skills at home and helping out with all the jobs around the house. I am so proud of all of you and cannot wait to see you again.

    1. Spellbound Unit 29– Please keep up to date with your spellbound activities each day and your sentences (+8 words in each sentence) one box each night.

    2. Mental maths– Do your best with your mental maths and keep up your tables each day too. We have up to take away 10 tables. You could write down all the sums and time yourself on the clock to see how quickly you can complete them (Remember when you take away 10 your units stay the same).

    3. All About me– This week I would like you to think about the All About Me sheets we did in school and complete an All About Me at Home sheet in your copy. You can answer these questions: 1) What is the name of the street you live on? 2) Can you list three things that you may find on the street? 3) Draw a picture of the street. 4) What do you do to help at home? Are there any chores you really dislike? 5) What do you like doing in your free time at home? 6) What could you do to be more helpful around the house?

    4. Time- This week I would like you to continue practising to read the time. We looked at o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. You can use this website to look at digital time too. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock Maybe get someone at home to test you.

    5. Science- This week you should all receive a little card in the post with some cress seeds for you to grow at home. All they need to grow is some cotton wool/kitchen roll, cling film, water and sunlight. This website might give you some creative ways of planting them too https://www.kidsdogardening.com You can send photos of your seedlings to my email: mslynchstkevins@gmail.com and we will choose a winner for the most ‘Creative Cress’.

Please feel free to email me if you would like some help with anything or if you would like some extra work.

    Take care,

    Ms Lynch

Class Activities!

  • Hi all,

I have been so delighted to hear from lot of you this week and have received the most wonderful emails showing all your hard work and more importantly all the fun you are having at home. I know it feels like a long time since we have been in school but I cannot tell you how proud I am of each and every one of you for how well you are all doing. It’s not easy but I am thrilled that you really are trying your best! This week’s work is the following:

Spellbound Unit 30- This week’s spellings are ‘commonly misspelled words’. Take some extra time to learn these words and think carefully about putting them into sentences (+8 words in each sentence) one box each night.

Mental maths- Do your best with your mental maths and keep up your tables each day too. This week I would like you to revise your take away tables -2 and -3 tables. Maybe you could play the Tables Tennis game where one person asks the sum and the other person answers, back and forth.

The Perfect Day- This week I would like you to write about what the perfect day would be like for you.

Start: Maybe it starts with having your favourite breakfast (banana pancakes or a sausage sandwich)

Middle:  Think about who would be there to share it with you, your family, your friends, maybe someone famous? Where would you go? To Jumpzone, on a shopping spree or to the Zoo?

End: To end the story write 2 sentences about your favourite part of the day and how it made you feel.

Art: This week I would like you to use your excellent artistic skills and make a Rainbow Mobile to hang in your homes. You can use whatever paper or card you have at home and you can use some cotton wool from the cress seeds for the clouds.  This example shows ribbon but you can use whatever you have. https://www.happinessishomemade.net/streamer-rainbows/

Please feel free to message me at any stage for additional work or just for an update on how you are all doing on mslynchstkevins@gmail.com. Don’t forget to send on the photos of your cress seeds too!

Continue to take such great care of one another,

    Ms Lynch
